Modeselektor is the Berlin-based electronic music duo consisting of Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary. Known for their genre-blending sound, Modeselektor have been active since the mid-1990s, emerging from the city’s vital post-wall rave scene. The pair quickly developed a reputation for their energetic DJ sets and live performances that fuse techno, IDM, electro, hip hop, and bass music, with a playful, irreverent attitude.
After self-releasing early tracks on their own Seilscheibenpfeiler label and making waves with appearances at legendary Berlin clubs like WMF and Tresor, Modeselektor caught the attention of Ellen Allien’s BPitch Control label. Their debut album, *Hello Mom!*, arrived in 2005, showcasing a wildly eclectic and bass-heavy sonic palette that attracted global acclaim.
The follow-up, *Happy Birthday!* (2007), featured collaborations with artists such as Thom Yorke, Otto von Schirach, and Maxïmo Park. Along with their own productions, Bronsert and Szary are key figures in Berlin’s electronic music community, launching the Monkeytown and 50 Weapons imprints to release music by themselves and likeminded artists.
In 2009, they formed the project Moderat with Sascha Ring (Apparat), expanding their creative range into melodic techno and electronic pop, which led to several internationally touring albums and live shows. Modeselektor’s discography includes notable albums like *Monkeytown* (2011), *Who Else* (2019), and collaborations with a diverse roster of vocalists and producers. Their work merges cutting-edge production techniques with elements from across the dance music spectrum, continually evolving while maintaining a raw, driving energy.
As trailblazers of Berlin’s electronic landscape, Modeselektor remain influential not just as producers but as curators and connectors, always seeking new sounds and ways to engage with global audiences.
