Simon Dunmore

Simon Dunmore is a pioneering British DJ, producer, and label executive best known as the founder of Defected Records, one of the world's most influential house music labels. Starting his career in London’s vibrant club scene during the late 1980s, Dunmore made his mark as both a DJ and an A&R talent scout, first for the Republic label and later for the legendary AM:PM label at A&M Records. His passion for soulful, uplifting house music led to the creation of Defected in 1999, where under his leadership, the label signed and broke countless classic records, working with artists such as Masters at Work, Bob Sinclar, and Roger Sanchez.

Dunmore’s reputation as a tastemaker extends beyond label management; his DJ sets at global venues and festivals such as Ministry of Sound and Defected’s own Glitterbox events are celebrated for their energetic, inclusive vibe and deep knowledge of dance music history. Over more than three decades, he has championed diversity, supported up-and-coming artists, and played a key role in the enduring appeal of house music. Even as he stepped back from day-to-day operations at Defected, Simon Dunmore remains a beloved figure and an enduring influence, embodying the spirit and evolution of house music culture worldwide.
