Slipmatt

Born Matthew Nelson, Slipmatt emerged as a pioneering figure in the UK rave and dance music scene from the late 1980s onward. First making waves alongside DJ Lime as part of the influential duo SL2, Slipmatt achieved commercial and underground acclaim with anthems like "On a Ragga Tip" and "Way in My Brain," both of which became defining tracks of the early 90s rave era. As a solo DJ, Slipmatt helped shape the sound of breakbeat hardcore before branching into jungle and ultimately happy hardcore, earning him the moniker “Godfather of Rave.

” Throughout the 1990s, Slipmatt was instrumental in promoting and headlining major events with iconic labels and crews such as Raindance, Dreamscape, and Fantazia, while his productions and remixes received widespread support both on pirate and mainstream radio. His labels, Universal Records and Awesome Records, became home to a string of genre-defining releases, further cementing his legacy. Across four decades, Slipmatt’s technical mixing skills, crowd-commanding energy, and relentless passion for new music have won him an enduring international following.

Renowned for his energetic sets spanning classic hardcore, house, and rave anthems, he continues to tour globally, hosts a regular radio show, and produces music that bridges generations of dance music fans. From formative raves to today’s global festivals, Slipmatt remains a true innovator and ambassador for UK electronic music culture.
