Benga Profile Image

Benga

Benga, born Adegbenga Adejumo in Croydon, United Kingdom in 1986, is a pioneering electronic music producer and DJ best known for his influential role in shaping the dubstep genre. Emerging from the vibrant South London scene in the early 2000s, Benga began making music as a teenager, heavily influenced by UK garage, drum and bass, and the experimental sounds coming from local pirate radio stations. He quickly made a name for himself alongside contemporaries such as Skream and Artwork, forming the legendary collective Magnetic Man.

Benga’s innovative production techniques and adventurous basslines were pivotal in defining the dark, syncopated rhythms of early dubstep, as showcased on breakthrough releases like "Newstep" and the critically acclaimed album "Diary of an Afro Warrior." Renowned for tracks like "Night," a collaboration with Coki that became a genre-defining anthem, Benga’s influence extended beyond the underground, helping dubstep gain international recognition. Over his career, he has released on iconic labels such as Tempa and has performed at major festivals and clubs worldwide, all while remaining committed to pushing boundaries in electronic music.

Despite stepping back from the spotlight to focus on mental health, Benga remains a revered figure whose forward-thinking approach and dedication to his craft have left a lasting mark on the evolution of UK electronic music.
