Scottish DJ and producer Denis Sulta, born Hector Barbour in Glasgow, has become a defining figure in contemporary house music. Raised in a musically-rich environment, he was influenced by his father, a former music journalist and radio producer. He honed his craft while working at the famed Rubadub record shop, absorbing electronic sounds that would shape his distinctive style.
Sulta's early releases on local labels Dixon Avenue Basement Jams and Numbers established his reputation for eclectic, energetic productions full of soulful samples and infectious grooves. Tracks like "It's Only Real" and "Dubelle Oh XX (JVIP)" showcased a blend of house, techno, and playful melodic elements that quickly garnered attention beyond Scotland. His unique sound has led to global recognition, from high-profile club bookings—such as fabric London and Berghain—to festival appearances at Glastonbury, Sónar, and Dekmantel.
In 2019, he launched his Sulta Selects imprint, both a record label and club night series, devoted to highlighting emerging talent and fostering his distinctive vision of dance music. Celebrated for dynamic DJ sets and inventive productions, Sulta remains at the forefront of the scene, valued for his unabashed energy, heartfelt records, and deep commitment to the evolution of house and techno.
