Born in Lisbon to Angolan parents, DJEFF (born José Eduardo Paulino) grew up immersed in the rich cultural fusion of Lusophone Africa and Europe. Drawing early musical inspiration from the sounds of his heritage, DJEFF was introduced to traditional Angolan rhythms, semba, and kizomba, as well as the influence of global electronic music that pulsed through Lisbon’s dance floors. He began his DJ career in the early 2000s, quickly establishing himself with a signature blend of Afro-house, deep-house, and tribal rhythms.
His rise was accelerated by regular collaborations with key figures in the Afro-house scene and significant performances at renowned clubs across Portugal and Africa. In 2011, DJEFF co-founded Kazukuta Records, a pioneering label focused on promoting Lusophone and African-influenced house music globally. The label’s releases have been supported by international heavyweights, helping to bring Afro-house to audiences worldwide.
DJEFF’s sound is marked by a fusion of deep, soulful house grooves and traditional African percussion, resulting in high-energy sets that have made him a favorite at festivals and venues across Europe, Africa, the Americas, and beyond. His productions, including acclaimed albums like "Soldier Ascension" and "Gratitude," showcase both club-ready tracks and more introspective compositions, earning praise from critics and dance music fans alike. Throughout his career, DJEFF has collaborated with artists such as Black Coffee, Mi Casa, and DJ Paulo Alves, and has performed at events like Africa Rising, Boiler Room, and the famed Tomorrowland festival.
His commitment to sharing African-rooted house music has made him both a cultural ambassador and a leading figure in the global electronic music scene. As he continues to produce, DJ, and innovate, DJEFF remains a driving force in expanding the reach and influence of Afro-house worldwide.
