Soichi Terada is a Japanese electronic music composer, producer, and DJ renowned for his pioneering contributions to house music since the late 1980s. A Tokyo native, Terada began his musical career after studying computer science at university and experimenting with synthesizers and drum machines. In 1989, he founded the label Far East Recording alongside Shinichiro Yokota, quickly making waves with his distinctive blend of warm, melodic deep house, incorporating playful synths and intricate rhythms.
Terada’s music, originally influenced by Chicago and New York house sounds, is characterized by its infectious grooves, lush melodies, and tangible sense of fun. During the 1990s, he gained attention as both a solo artist and collaborator, notably producing music for the video game “Ape Escape” and creating a vast catalog of underground tracks that would later become highly sought after by collectors and DJs worldwide. After a period of relative obscurity outside Japan, Terada experienced a renaissance in the 2010s when his early work was reissued by Rush Hour Recordings, introducing a new generation to his classic house sound.
His energetic DJ sets and live performances have since taken him across the globe, celebrated for their joy, creativity, and crowd-connecting spirit. Terada continues to release new material and perform internationally, securing his reputation as a beloved figure in both Japanese and global dance music culture.
